Transparent And Open

Transparency underpins our actions and values, guiding our tree-planting and initiatives. We're proud to lead in transparency among Ireland's tree-planting organisations, setting standards for openness in environmental restoration.

Our Operations and Governance

As a social enterprise dedicated to environmental restoration and reforestation in Ireland, Reforest Nation operates under a unique model where passion and volunteerism drive our mission forward. Founded and currently led by Gearóid, a Wildlife Biologist and passionate environmentalist, the organisation thrives on the collective effort of individuals who share a deep commitment to our cause. While Gearóid is the sole employee, ensuring the strategic direction and day-to-day operations align with our core mission, a vast network of volunteers forms the backbone of our efforts.

Funding and Support

Our journey is fuelled by the generous support of the public and like-minded businesses that understand the urgency and importance of reforestation. We operate on a foundation of financial independence that allows us to pursue our goals without external pressures or influences. This independence is crucial, as it ensures that our projects and initiatives directly reflect the values and objectives of our supporters and the environmental mission we are committed to.

We consciously choose not to accept governmental grants, a decision that underscores our commitment to autonomy and agility. Our funding model is based on funding from individuals and partnerships with businesses that are aligned with our vision for a greener, healthier Ireland. These collaborations not only provide essential financial backing but also create a synergy between the private sector and environmental advocacy, paving the way for impactful and sustainable reforestation efforts.

Volunteer Driven Efforts

The heart of Reforest Nation lies in its volunteers, who bring an array of skills, enthusiasm, and dedication to our projects. From planting trees to participating in community engagement activities, our volunteers are the driving force that enables us to reach our ambitious goals. This community-centric approach fosters a deep sense of ownership and connection among participants, strengthening the impact of our collective action.

Governance

Reforest Nation is guided by its founder, Gearóid, a Wildlife Biologist whose expertise shapes the organisation's strategic direction. This governance model, centred around Gearóid's scientific knowledge and passion for environmental restoration, facilitates quick, effective decision-making. Ensuring the organisation remains responsive, focused, and aligned with its mission, Gearóid's leadership also embraces a crucial principle: the value of public feedback and participation.

Public feedback and advocacy for public input are fundamental pillars that guide Reforest Nation's direction. Recognising that the success and future of the project are made possible by the public, this ensures that community voices are not just heard but are influential in shaping the project’s trajectory.

This inclusive approach underscores the belief that environmental restoration is a collective endeavour, reliant on the engagement and support of the wider community. By aligning scientific expertise with public insight and enthusiasm, Reforest Nation fosters a governance model that is not only adaptable and informed but also deeply rooted in the principles of collaboration and shared vision.

Our Tree Planting Milestone With Our Partners in Africa

Our Planting Partners

Achieving our reforestation ambitions at Reforest Nation is a collaborative effort that hinges on the vital partnerships we've forged across Ireland. Without the support and dedication of our tree planting partners, including landowners, nature reserves, local tree planting initiatives, and environmental groups, our mission to plant trees and restore native woodlands would remain a distant dream. These partnerships not only enable us to plant trees but also ensure the success and sustainability of our projects.

Our work extends beyond simply putting trees in the ground; it involves meticulous planning, understanding local ecosystems, and ensuring that the right trees are planted in the right places. This is where our partners come into play, offering invaluable expertise, resources, and land for reforestation. Landowners provide the essential space required for planting, while nature reserves help us ensure that our planting efforts contribute to broader conservation goals. Local tree planting initiatives and environmental groups bring community engagement, local knowledge, and hands-on support to our projects.
