Annual Tree Planting Day
About:
We invite you to be part of something truly special, the creation of the Freedom Forest, nestled beneath the stunning Sugar Loaf Mountain in Greystones, Co. Wicklow. Together, we will plant thousands of native trees to grow a vibrant new forest, restoring biodiversity, regenerating the land, and honouring those affected by conflict.
The Freedom Forest is dedicated to the people of Gaza and Ukraine, standing as a living symbol of resilience, hope, and freedom for communities facing unimaginable hardship. With your support, we will expand what is already Europe’s largest Miyawaki-inspired forest, creating a dense, self-sustaining ecosystem.
Crucially, this project also helps to extend and strengthen the Glen of the Downs, one of Ireland’s last remaining ancient woodlands, enhancing ecological connectivity, protecting native species, and safeguarding a vital natural heritage for future generations.
What To Bring:
A shovel or spade
Warm clothes
Gloves
Bright colour clothing (we’ll be taking lots of photos to capture the day!)
A tenacious tree planting spirit!

Rescheduled: Forest Walk & Wander
See what you helped bring to lifeAbout:
Our Forest Walk & Wander has been rescheduled to Saturday 20 September, so that everyone can enjoy the day in calmer, safer conditions. If you’ve already registered, there is no reason to re-register, your spot is confirmed for the new date.
Would you like to see the progress of the forest you helped create? Join us for an open day under the beautiful Sugar Loaf mountain to witness the growth of our 40,000-tree forest, planted just two year ago. This is the largest Miyawaki-inspired forest in all of Europe, a testament to your support and the power of community. Our eco-optimised methods transforms tiny saplings into a full-grown forest in just ten years by planting trees close together, creating a thriving ecosystem.
This event is a special occasion for all our sponsors and supporters. Bring your families and loved ones to see the growth of the trees you sponsored or gifted. It’s a chance to connect with nature and see firsthand the impact of your contributions. We’ve named this forest the Freedom Forest, in honour of all the refugees and displaced people around the world who are fighting for their own freedom.
We’re excited to share this incredible journey with you and celebrate the difference your support has made. So, what do you say? Want to join us and be a part of something truly amazing?
What to bring:

Location and parking:
Hawthorn hill (A63 H364), Ballydonagh Lane, Delgany, Greystones, Co. Wicklow.
We recommend parking at Kindlestown Wood and then taking the 3-minute walk up Ballydonagh Lane. After passing the fourth house on the left, marked with a sign saying “Hawthorn Hill,” walk up the driveway. You’ll see a gate with arrows, and there will be people there to greet you and guide you up to the forest.
