Burrenbeo trust

Our partner dedicated to the conservation of Ireland’s birdlife and their habitats.

What they do

Burrenbeo Trust is a non-profit organisation dedicated to protecting the Burren’s natural and cultural heritage. Their work includes:

  • Running The Hare’s Corner project, which helps landowners create habitats like species-rich grasslands, ponds, orchards, and native woodlands.

  • Promoting sustainable land management practices through education and community engagement.

  • Raising awareness about the importance of biodiversity and the cultural significance of the Burren’s landscapes.

By working with local communities, landowners, and conservationists, Burrenbeo Trust ensures that the Burren remains a thriving example of sustainable living and biodiversity conservation.

Why Meadows are Important

Meadows are essential to Ireland’s biodiversity and play a key role in supporting pollinators, birds, and small mammals. They also act as natural carbon sinks, improving soil health and storing carbon more effectively than monoculture grasslands. Meadows provide critical habitats for wildflowers and insects, many of which are under threat. By protecting and restoring species-rich meadows, we can safeguard ecosystems, enhance climate resilience, and maintain the Burren’s unique beauty.

How we Help

Reforest Nation is proud to support Burrenbeo Trust in their efforts to conserve and restore the Burren’s grasslands and biodiversity. With the support of our Rewild Members, we’ve donated €1,000 to aids the creation and management of species-rich meadows.

This contribution makes a difference by:

  • Helping landowners establish and care for native meadows, supporting local wildlife.

  • Raising awareness of the importance of grassland restoration through education and outreach.

  • Enhancing Ireland’s biodiversity and strengthening the Burren’s ecosystems.

Together, we are ensuring a sustainable future for the Burren and its incredible landscapes, protecting them for generations to come.
